Mystery Sphere Extra – Is there life on Titan?

Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and has become of high interest to scientists in recent time due to the discovery of a molecule called vinyl cyanide.

It used to be believed that Titan could not sustain life because of the extremely low surface temperature and the lack of liquid water. There is also very little oxygen in Titan’s atmosphere which is a crucial part of life on Earth. What it does have though, are lakes and seas of liquid hydrocarbon. Could a different type of life grow in this liquid? The discovery of vinyl cyanide may indicate it can. This molecule has the potential to create a cell membrane which can then allow important chemical reactions to take place. It doesn’t need oxygen and can still operate in Titan’s extremely low temperatures.

I think it is only a matter of time until we find at least microbial alien life out there somewhere. What do you think?
